"Awakening is a contemporary-ballet duet to the song 'Spring 1' by Max Richter. The movement in the dance directly correlates to the song, and thus, the piece draws on the theme of coming into awareness with life and the ones around us. It follows the dependency of two people and how their energies interact with each other. (Co-choreographed with Leah Suskind)"
"Honestly, I had no intention of symbolism or hidden meaning with this dance. I made it as a sort of silly project to make people smile. Big Time Rush reminds me of early 2010's Nickelodeon, so if you are familiar with them, I hope you feel the nostalgia. Oh, and happy, I hope it makes you happy."
"From the Fall Dance Concert-2019, directed by Professor Francisco Martinez and filmed by David Allen Jones, the piece I choreographed, Shattered, is the culmination of my work throughout the Fall 2019 semester for the choreography class. This piece eventually turned into a way of healing from traumatic experiences I went through during my time in high school show choir. A time when I felt used, under appreciated, worthless, and frustrated as I was giving my all throughout four years, to the point of exhaustion. With this piece, I found myself accepting the fact that I had no control over the situation and there was nothing different I could have done to change the outcome. I have realized since that I am worth so much more than what I was told. Each movement and expression represents a moment during that time. This piece serves to close that chapter of my life, trying to not look back or dwell, but rather focus on what I learned and how I have grown."
"2020 has been filled with 'unprecedented' events and numerous 'unforeseen circumstances' that have changed everyone’s lives. As a dance group, we’ve had to find unconventional ways to continue dancing as a team, learning that in this virtual world, one has to really fall 'In Love with the Camera' for it to work."
Choreographed by Sarah Dalessi (Class of 2018). Song by The Struts. Performed by ODT Fall 2020: Alison Hwang, Allison Wilson, Gabriella Piazza, Gillian Northway, Mara Kristiansson, Mary Ferris, Nastasya Stasiv, Sarah Ng
